Dance transit PRAHA.LEIPZIG.DRESDEN — Hermann Heisig, Nuno Lucas – Pongo Land, Ann Van den Broek a 420PEOPLE – Phrasing the Pain

What does contemporary German dance creation look like? In what ways does it differ from Czech works and in what ways is it the same?  Come and compare in the PONEC and Archa theatres 8 – 12.2.2015 at the Dance Transit Festival, held in cooperation with the HELLERAU centre for contemporary arts in Dresden and the LOFFT theatre in Leipzig. The festival shows what's happening on the dance scene right across the border. In March, Czech artists will travel to Germany.

PONGO LAND

Hermann Heisig, Nuno Lucas (DE)

PONGO LAND is a meeting of two very different bodies. Exploring differences, similarities and possible or impossible relationships between each other, Nuno and Hermann are reducing questions about civilisation and order into  a primitivistic landscape, in which they constantly compare, compete and  copy, creating a state of permanent modulation...

PHRASING THE PAIN
Ann van den Broek / 420PEOPLE

The prestigious contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE are about to present a production made-to-measure for the company by a foreign choreographer. Ann van den Broek, the reputed innovator, among other things the awardee of the Dutch dance prize Zwaan she gained with Co(te)lette will come to Prague and work intensely with the company to present original movement material arising from her method which could easily be labeled as „to the core" of mind and movement.

Phrasing the Pain is a new group piece based on an original movement phrase, the pain phrase, used in the production I SOLO MENT (Ann Van den Broek, 2008). This movement phrase originally sprung forth from the feelings of pain and sadness one feels after losing a loved one, a  friend, a parent, a child, etc. All the movements came out of these feelings, not one movement was gratuitous. This pain phrase is the basis of a constantly repetitive and rhythmic  choreography in which the dancers, using that same material, must ‘travel’ through various feelings such as lust, aggression, euphoria, zero-point, to transform this grief into other truths.

A compelling, transforming, emotional, and rhythmic choreography.

Performing: 420PEOPLE – Nataša Novotná, Václav Kuneš, Saša Volný, Milan Odstrčil, Sylva Nečasová, Ombline Noyer, Štěpán Pechar
Music: Arne van Dongen, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
The piece is co-produced by 420PEOPLE o.s., Archa Theatre and the Dutch WArd/waRD
