THE ART OF LOOKING SIDEWAYS
Motto: “You cannot change something unless you know what you are doing.” Mosh Feldenkreis
A workshop by the choreographer, dancer and artistic director of Palissimo Company (USA) Pavel Zuštiak.
A workshop focussing on the creative process in the context of composition and improvisation intended for choreographers, dancers, actors and visual artists.
Each session will start with a guided physical work that will warm up the body, open the senses, imagination and heighten physical and mental awareness. This workshop will incorporate exploration of body systems, then uses that exploration to introduce composition. The workshop objectives are to develop conscious presence while improvising in performance; to amplify live time in the performance space; to support performers in developing and enhancing skills connecting technique to composition; to offer tools for developing and crafting the work. Attention will be given to generating structures for dance, generating movement material, editing and deconstruction of the material, relationships between composition and improvisation and introducing elements of chance.
Some of the thoughts/questions that we might address: How do you start? What is material? Improvisation / Scoring / What to set? What to leave open? How do we remember?
