Solo for Lu / Divadelní svět Brno
“With one body and one voice she manages to bring a whole world on stage.”
Jitka Polanská
The real life story of Chinese actress, singer and dancer Jing Lu hits the stage. Accompany Jing Lu on a journey from her childhood in China to her current life in Prague. This intimate story, full of tragedy, adversity and striving for success, is confronted with global questions of today’s world and the ambivalent relationship of western society to China, which ranges from admiration of eastern culture to fear of China’s economic hegemony.
As Jing Lu is an excellent musician and singer, music plays a major role in the performance. Jing Lu transforms specific sounds into musical motifs and compositions. Director Jana Svobodová therefore brought in renowned Czech composer of contemporary music Michal Nejtek to work on the production.
Audience responses:
“I saw the premiere yesterday and I really liked it. It was worked out to the last detail. Just keeping the audience’s attention for more than 80 minutes on the stage is an accomplishment in itself! Go Jing go!”
Monie Kim
“A powerful performance… it is profound, with moments that are heartrending and moments of gentle humour.”
