Miet Warlop (1978) graduated in 2003 from the 3D/Multimedia department at the Ghent Academy. In the same year, she won the young theatre award at Theater aan Zee in Ostend with her graduation performance (Huilend Hert, Aangeschoten Wild). This gave her the opportunity to create a second production with the support of Vooruit and Villanella: Sportband, Afgetrainde Klanken (2005). She has also been responsible for the stage design in productions by Dominique Hoste, Pieter Genard and Raven Ruëll (Caligula, Theater Antigone). In 2006 and 2007, she was part of DE BANK, a project by what was then Victoria (now CAMPO) which gave young artists the chance to work on an artistic project over a period of two years. During this time she was given plenty of opportunity for experimentation. She investigated the relationship between collective memory and personal recollection and she developed her own intuitive visual language. Several short films emerged from this residency at Victoria, as well as the performances Proposition 1: Reanimation, Proposition 2: Reconstructie and Proposition 3: Play the life - Rode lopers. Following these performances, Miet Warlop was able to develop her own style and launch her work onto the international scene. After DE BANK came to an end, Miet was invited on a European tour as part of the IETM Festival. Springville, a living installation in which the image takes precedence over the performance, is her latest piece.
